Comprehensive Mission Planning

At Unconventional Missionary, we use a structured, proven approach grounded in years of military experience planning real-world missions. Our method follows the 5-Paragraph Order, a comprehensive framework that covers every detail of your mission, including weather conditions, location orientation, ground situations, mission objectives (whether humanitarian, construction, or spiritual), the strategies to achieve those goals, logistics (airports, luggage, food), and communication (radios, phones, SIM cards).

Most importantly, it equips your team to handle unexpected challenges. We establish contingencies for emergencies such as medical issues, lost team members, communication failures, and delays. These are essential for ensuring mission success and mitigating risks like local crime, severe weather, and fraudulent activities.

By organizing your mission in this way, we create a clear and actionable plan that prepares your team for any scenario, making your mission purposeful, organized, and adaptable to whatever comes your way. Freeing you to be open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance throughout your journey.

Threat Assessment

Once your church or organization has determined the mission destination and received the calling for your team, it is our responsibility to create a thorough threat assessment of that location and the potential risks involved.

The purpose of the threat assessment is not to discourage you from your mission but to prepare you by making you aware of any risks. Once those risks are identified, we can develop contingencies to mitigate them—recognizing that our duty is not to tempt the Lord but to act wisely.

By leveraging a trusted and established network, along with my extensive experience as a Green Beret and overseas missionary, I provide customized threat assessments that address the specific challenges of your mission destination. From evaluating local geopolitical conditions to assessing security and health risks, we ensure your team is well-informed and prepared for any situation.

Medical Training & Equipment

When traveling in rural or austere environments overseas, it's crucial not to depend on local medical services for your team’s emergencies. Instead, your team should be equipped to handle medical situations that can be treated and stabilized in the field before evacuation to a medical facility.

This can be accomplished by participating in our Stop the Bleed course and ensuring your team is properly equipped to manage such emergencies.

Our medical planning process prepares your mission team for any medical scenario by using Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) principles as a foundation. We provide comprehensive training in basic first aid, supply your team with essential medical gear like aid bags and Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs), and develop an emergency plan that includes identifying nearby hospitals and clinics. This ensures your team can respond quickly and effectively to medical crises during your mission.

Communication

Clear and consistent communication is vital for mission success. We establish a detailed reporting process to ensure your team provides daily updates on their status and any critical developments while in the field.

We also implement real-time tracking to monitor your team’s movements and status throughout the mission, enabling us to respond swiftly to any changes. To ensure reliable communication even in remote areas, we equip your team with satellite phones, GPS devices, and necessary software.

Our priority is ensuring your team has a reliable communication plan at all times, both within the team and with supporting efforts back home, especially during emergencies. One key component of this is the establishment of a PACE Plan (Primary, Alternative, Contingency, Emergency), designed to maintain communication under all circumstances.

Support

At Unconventional Missionary, I provide hands-on support by accompanying your mission team, offering both spiritual guidance and practical assistance throughout your journey.

With extensive overseas experience, I assist your team in navigating the complexities of travel—airports, customs, visas—and handling logistics within the country, ensuring smooth movement from point A to B. I also help acquire evangelism materials like Bibles, audio resources, and tracts in the local language, and support your team in a variety of missionary activities such as evangelism, prayer, speaking engagements, building relationships with local contacts, or simply being the hands and feet of Jesus in the field.

Often, we set out with the goal of being a blessing to others (and we certainly will, where God allows), but I’ve found that the mission team itself often receives the spiritual blessing of growth. I'm passionate about helping to foster and manage that growth as it unfolds.
